Toddlers were swiftly evacuated when a fire erupted at a school in Wales during the summer break. The incident took place at Awel Y Mor Primary School in Port Talbot, where children attending the Lots of Tots holiday club were relocated following the sight of massive flames and dense smoke billowing from the school’s windows on a Wednesday morning.

Staff members at a Flying Start group, which was also present at the school but in a separate area, acted promptly to ensure the safe evacuation of the children from the club. A statement from the group expressed gratitude towards the staff for their composed and professional handling of the evacuation process. Unfortunately, the fire forced the cancellation of the holiday club for the remainder of the week.

Firefighters from multiple stations, including Port Talbot, Neath Swansea Central, Morriston, and Swansea West, collaborated to contain the blaze. They successfully managed the situation and departed from the scene by approximately 12:45 pm, as reported by Wales Online.

According to a spokesperson from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the fire incident at Awel Y Mor Primary School was responded to by crews equipped with necessary gear and tools. The fire, located within Sandwich Panels of the school, was extinguished using various firefighting equipment. The crews concluded their operations and left the site at 12:43 pm.

A subsequent update from the Lots of Tots group conveyed that due to the fire incident in the main school building, the group would remain closed for the remainder of the week. Assessment of the damage and planning for the safe return of children and staff to the undamaged areas are underway. A reopening date will be determined following a thorough assessment.

The post also extended appreciation to the staff for their composed and professional conduct during the evacuation process, ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
