A father’s vacation took a terrifying turn as he experienced severe health issues while relaxing by the pool. Peter Beetham, aged 49, had recently completed three years of cancer treatment and decided to celebrate his recovery by going on a trip to Gran Canaria with his partner Sharleene Hickman and a friend.

However, just two days into the £12,500 holiday, Peter began vomiting blood and then collapsed. Despite being taken to the hospital, he was initially misdiagnosed with sunstroke. The following day, he continued to lose blood and made the decision to return home, booking a swift flight back to Manchester.

Upon landing, Peter went straight to the Manchester Royal Infirmary where doctors discovered internal bleeding caused by an ulcer that had burst in his bowel, likely a complication from a past surgery to remove his pancreas.

Peter recounted feeling fortunate to have survived such a life-threatening situation, having received seven blood transfusions and a minor surgical procedure. He expressed gratitude for being alive but lamented that his holiday had been completely ruined by the ordeal. Despite being on the path to recovery, Peter admitted to feeling apprehensive about planning future trips due to the traumatic experience.

Looking ahead, Peter is scheduled for further medical procedures to monitor his recovery progress. Reflecting on the incident, he emphasized the severity of his condition and the fear he experienced during the frightening ordeal, expressing reluctance to venture on another holiday anytime soon.
