Former President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to run for the presidency again, stating that he “would like to be the next president” during a media briefing at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) headquarters in Washington.

Trump’s bold declaration raised eyebrows as he confidently stated, “All know is, I’d like to be the next president.” He further boasted about his accomplishments, suggesting that his successor would benefit from the positive outcomes of his policies.

Under the US Constitution, presidents are limited to serving two four-year terms, as stipulated by the 22nd Amendment ratified in 1951 following Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four-term presidency. This amendment solidified the long-standing tradition of two-term presidencies established since George Washington voluntarily stepped down after his second term.

While some may dismiss Trump’s remarks as jest, his persistent hints at seeking a third term have drawn attention. In a 2025 interview with NBC News, Trump affirmed his seriousness about the matter, noting that there were potential avenues to pursue a third term. He acknowledged the support from his allies but tempered expectations by emphasizing the early stage of his administration.

Despite claiming to be focused on his current duties, Trump’s statements hint at a lingering interest in future political endeavors. When pressed on the topic of seeking another term, he affirmed his commitment to his work but maintained that it was premature to consider such plans.

When questioned about potential strategies to pursue a third term, Trump cryptically suggested that there were feasible methods to achieve it. His ambiguous responses have fueled speculation about his intentions beyond his initial terms in office.
