A 61-year-old man from Sweden has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison for forcing his wife to engage in sexual activities with over 120 men.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found guilty of various offenses, including aggravated pimping, attempted rape, assault, and making unlawful threats after a trial in the Ångermanland region in northern Sweden.
During the court proceedings in Härnösand, it was revealed that the man controlled his wife by providing her with drugs, isolating her on their secluded farm in Kramfors, and exploiting her limited social interactions. Additionally, he installed surveillance cameras on the property to document sexual encounters and threatened her with violence, including death, burning, and mutilation, if she did not comply with his demands.
Earlier this year, prosecutors disclosed that the man was suspected of arranging sexual encounters between his wife and at least 120 men, leading to charges against 29 individuals for purchasing sexual services. Of those charged, 28 were convicted of a total of 56 offenses, and two were sentenced to imprisonment.
The men reportedly traveled from various parts of the country to the farm to engage in sexual activities with the victim in 2022. Her distress continued until she reported her husband to the authorities in October 2025, leading to his arrest and detention.
This case has drawn comparisons to the infamous incident involving Dominique Pelicot in France, where he facilitated the rape of his then-wife, Gisele, by numerous men over a prolonged period.
Following a recent court hearing, the defendant was acquitted of eight rape charges and three attempted rape charges. The court cited insufficient evidence to establish the involuntary nature of the participation in seven instances and uncertainty about the specific acts in another case.
Judge Johan Ahlberg stated that the man had coerced his wife into performing sexual acts, broadcasting them online, attracting more clients, and attempting to persuade others to engage in sexual activities with her through persistent pressure and derogatory language.
In addition to the prison term, the man was ordered to pay 200,000 kronor (£15,900) in damages to the woman. Despite denying any wrongdoing, he argued that he was arranging consensual encounters.
Swedish legislation prohibits the purchase and solicitation of sexual services but does not criminalize the sale of sex by individuals working in the industry, who are recognized as exploited victims.
