A dedicated football enthusiast invested £22,000 in what he described as the trip of a lifetime to the World Cup but found the cost of England match tickets beyond his budget. Ben Laing’s goal was to create lasting memories for his two sons, Alfie and James. However, after realizing the steep prices for tickets and accommodations for England games, he opted for an alternative plan.

Ben decided to attend five matches involving various countries, providing a diverse and exciting experience for his sons. Alfie, 12, was even granted permission to leave school early for a flight to the United States to kick off the tournament. The family’s itinerary includes attending games in different cities such as Dallas, Kansas City, and Atlanta.

Explaining his decision, Ben, a 50-year-old scaffold product manager from Liverpool, mentioned that the overall expenses covered match tickets, hotels, and flights. Despite not being able to afford England tickets, the family is looking forward to the unique cultural and educational experiences the trip offers. The boys have already had the opportunity to learn about historical events and witness significant landmarks during their journey.

Reflecting on the trip, Ben expressed excitement about attending matches featuring teams like Algeria, Argentina, and South Africa, highlighting the joy of encountering unexpected moments such as spotting the Japanese team bus. The family, known for their support of Liverpool, plans to enjoy the games and explore different cities, creating unforgettable memories for the boys.

Alfie and James, avid football fans with their favorite players, are thrilled about attending multiple games and sharing their experiences with friends. As they embark on this adventure, the family anticipates the start of the tournament in Dallas, where England will compete against Croatia before continuing their journey to other venues across the United States.

With a vibrant atmosphere expected at the opening game, which will draw over 20,000 England fans, including expatriates and travelers from various regions, the Laing family is prepared for an action-packed and memorable World Cup experience.
