Connolly disclosed that she had proposed a state visit to the King, a rare occurrence for a British ruler in Ireland since its independence. The late Queen Elizabeth II made a state visit to Ireland in 2011, a momentous occasion in British-Irish relations.
Describing her hour-long meeting with Charles as “wonderful,” Connolly expressed her delight at the warm reception. She highlighted the shared history and close ties between the two nations, referencing previous significant visits.
Connolly emphasized the vast influence of Irish culture in various sectors of British society and reiterated her commitment to engaging with the Irish community. The tour began at the Irish Cultural Centre in London, where she acknowledged the diverse contributions of the Irish in British life.

Irish ambassador Martin Fraser and Deirdre Fraser will host a reception in honor of Connolly and her spouse at the Irish embassy in London. The visit will continue with engagements at the Chelsea Flower Show, the London Irish Centre, Leeds University, and the Irish Health Centre in Leeds.
Connolly’s visit to Leeds marks her third official trip since assuming office, following visits to Northern Ireland and Spain. The interactions during her tour aim to further enhance the relationship between Ireland and the UK.
