A tragic incident occurred at a nursery school in Monclova, Mexico, where six-year-old Ian Gael Hernández lost his life after a swing he was playing on suddenly collapsed. The boy was enjoying his playtime when the metal structure gave way unexpectedly, causing him to fall and hit his head on stones at the playground edge.
Despite an ambulance being called, family members decided to rush Ian to a nearby hospital themselves due to perceived delays. Unfortunately, upon reaching the hospital, medical staff confirmed that Ian had passed away.
Following the heartbreaking event, the Coahuila State Attorney General’s Office has initiated an investigation to determine the reasons behind the swing collapse and whether maintenance, supervision, or safety protocols were neglected at the María Helena Chanes nursery school.
Local residents have raised concerns about the playground’s maintenance, noting that the equipment had been in disrepair for some time. Consequently, the structure involved in the accident was removed from the preschool premises shortly after the incident.
Ian is survived by his parents, grandparents, a four-year-old sister, and a two-year-old brother. His mother, Escarleth Guel Puente, expressed her deep sorrow online, lamenting the loss of her young son and questioning the decision to send him to nursery school that day.
At present, children have not resumed classes at the school.
