Southport observed a moment of silence today, marking the second anniversary of a tragic incident that claimed the lives of three young individuals. Residents gathered at the town hall gardens to honor the memory of Alice da Silva Aguiar, Bebe King, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, who tragically lost their lives on July 29, 2024, during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. Along with the three children, eight others, including a dance teacher and a businessman, sustained physical injuries in the attack.

The community, Sefton Council, and Merseyside Police came together to pay tribute to the victims and survivors during the solemn moment of silence. Merseyside Police, in a statement shared on social media, expressed heartfelt remembrance for the joy and light that Alice, Bebe, and Elsie brought into the world, acknowledging the profound impact of the tragedy on the affected families and the community.

Instead of floral tributes, people were encouraged to contribute to local causes in honor of the victims. Following the devastating event, foundations were established in memory of Alice, Bebe, and Elsie. Alice’s WonderDance Foundation aims to uphold Alice’s legacy by supporting young dancers, while Elsie’s Story seeks to continue her impact by assisting young people. Bebe’s Hive was created to provide creative support sessions for grieving children.

Sefton Council recently invited locals to designated spaces where they could pray, light candles, seek solace, or reflect quietly. The council emphasized that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, urging individuals to commemorate the day in a manner that feels most fitting to them. Earlier this year, a public inquiry concluded that the tragic attack could have been prevented if necessary actions had been taken by authorities and the assailant’s parents.
