Customers are encouraged to input their Nectar details before placing orders for food from Sainsbury’s via Uber Eats. This move marks a significant extension of the loyalty program, enabling shoppers to earn one Nectar point for each pound spent on eligible Sainsbury’s items through the Uber Eats platform.

To ensure point accrual, shoppers must enter their complete Nectar card number during checkout as points cannot be retroactively awarded. The new collection feature is accessible through participating Sainsbury’s establishments on Uber Eats, with over 1,300 locations across the UK included in the broader rollout.

This enhancement allows patrons utilizing the fast-delivery service for fresh groceries, household necessities, or last-minute buys to accumulate rewards on their purchases. Once a Nectar card is linked, qualifying points will be added to the customer’s account within 28 days, subject to a minimum spend of £1.

Certain products are excluded from point collection, such as gift vouchers, baby milk, lottery tickets, tobacco, vapes, nicotine products, proprietary medicines, spirits, and liqueurs. Moreover, additional restrictions apply to alcohol acquisitions in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The introduction expands the existing collaboration between Nectar and Uber, which already permits members to convert points into vouchers for Uber rides and Uber Eats orders. Consequently, customers can amass Nectar points when buying Sainsbury’s groceries via Uber Eats and subsequently convert their balance into an Uber voucher.

To redeem points, members should access the Nectar app, navigate to the “Partners” section, and choose Uber. Katie Hunter, Uber Eats’ general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, emphasized the convenience of earning Nectar points on Sainsbury’s essentials and utilizing them across the Uber app.

Mark Given, Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing, and data officer, highlighted that this expansion offers Nectar members an additional avenue to derive value from the partnership. By ordering Sainsbury’s groceries through Uber Eats, members can now accumulate points, complementing the existing options to redeem points for Uber rides and Uber Eats treats.

Customers interested in earning points must select groceries from a participating Sainsbury’s store on Uber Eats and input their Nectar card number before finalizing the transaction.
