A shocking incident unfolded when a bride was targeted with black paint by her sister-in-law on her wedding day as an act of revenge. Gemma Monk’s ceremony was disrupted as Antonia Eastwood, her sister-in-law, splattered paint on her expensive white gown, causing distress among the guests. Despite the sabotage, the bride proceeded with the wedding after changing into a different outfit.

Eastwood, aged 49, narrowly avoided imprisonment and received a 10-month suspended jail term for the vengeful attack that took place in May 2024. She justified her actions as retaliation for a previous incident at her own wedding the year before, where tensions escalated between the families.

Ashley, Gemma’s brother and Eastwood’s husband, recalled a past conflict at their wedding in 2023, leading to strained relations and their exclusion from Gemma’s wedding. Eastwood expressed remorse post-sentencing, admitting that her actions were out of character and causing her extreme distress.

The black paint used in the attack was claimed to be coincidentally in Eastwood’s possession, as she had been using it for a family project. Living in Manchester, Eastwood was sentenced for two counts of criminal damage at Maidstone Crown Court, with repair costs at the venue amounting to over £5,000.

Gemma described the emotional toll of the incident in a victim impact statement, highlighting the profound impact on her well-being and daily life. The distress caused by the attack on her special day has left lasting scars, affecting her sense of self and turning a joyous occasion into a painful memory for her and her family.
