The sibling of a pregnant hairstylist who was fatally stabbed by her partner is advocating for a register of violent individuals. Jasmine Yates is pushing for enhancements to Clare’s Law following the brutal attack on her sister by her partner, who had a previous murder conviction.

Alana Odysseos, a mother of two, was viciously stabbed 19 times by Shaine March, a double murderer, after enduring four months of domestic abuse and manipulation. Alana, who was pregnant with her third child, was assaulted by March, who had a history of violence, stemming from a disagreement about her pregnancy.

Jasmine expressed that March had concealed his true criminal history, including previous violent incidents, such as assaulting a pregnant girlfriend. She emphasized the need for a reformation of Clare’s Law to proactively inform individuals about their partner’s violent past.

Alana, originally from Newmarket, Suffolk, had relocated to Walthamstow, east London, after escaping a violent relationship. Jasmine recounted how Alana met March in 2024, and despite initially enjoying life, she quickly fell victim to a cycle of abuse and control. March imposed restrictions on Alana, isolating her from her family and friends.

March’s unfounded accusations of infidelity led to violent outbursts, with Alana feeling trapped and brainwashed. Despite Jasmine’s warnings, Alana remained in the abusive relationship, leading to the tragic events on July 22, 2024, where March fatally stabbed her as she pleaded for the life of her unborn child.

After Alana’s murder, March callously confessed to the crime and was later sentenced to life in prison. Jasmine, along with her sisters, has garnered support for “Alana’s Law,” which aims to mandate checks on offenders with a history of domestic violence.

Jasmine highlighted the urgent need for measures to prevent further tragedies like Alana’s, emphasizing that domestic violence is a widespread issue affecting women and girls. The proposed law seeks to proactively disclose information about violent partners and implement stricter monitoring of high-risk offenders to safeguard potential victims.
