An 18-year-old pregnant woman has been paralyzed following a shooting incident during an armed robbery where she was meeting an individual she had connected with on Snapchat.
Angel Jones, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time, sustained life-altering injuries during the shooting, leading to premature labor. Medical professionals are striving to prolong her pregnancy while uncertainty looms over her ability to walk again.
The incident occurred when Angel and her 19-year-old boyfriend met someone they had connected with online in Toledo, Ohio. During the meeting, an assailant in black attire approached their vehicle and attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
The perpetrator reportedly brandished a firearm, demanding money from Angel’s boyfriend. A struggle ensued, resulting in the gun discharging and striking Angel, causing severe injuries that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Although the unborn baby narrowly escaped harm, Angel’s arm was shattered, and her spinal cord suffered significant damage.
A fundraising campaign launched by Angel’s mother, Brandy Jones, detailed the harrowing experience, praising Angel’s boyfriend for his bravery in the face of grave danger. Brandy described the traumatic impact of the incident on Angel, emphasizing her daughter’s fears of paralysis, which have now become a reality.
Angel’s condition prompted premature labor, with doctors working intensively to manage the situation and support the baby’s development. Despite the challenges, every day the baby remains inside Angel is seen as a miraculous feat.
Due to her pregnancy, Angel’s pain relief options are constrained, limiting her ability to take certain medications. The fundraising goal of $50,000 aims to provide essential support for Angel’s recovery, including modifications to her family’s home, medical expenses, and a reward for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible.
The community has rallied to assist Angel and her family during this challenging time, demonstrating solidarity and compassion in the face of adversity.
