The devastated parents of a teenage girl who was discovered deceased in a suitcase shared their profound shock at the tragic news, expressing that their worst fears had been realized.

Seventeen-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla went missing on June 25 in Pattaya, Thailand, only to be found dead, unclothed, and folded into a suitcase near railway tracks. Simon Peter Carman, a 45-year-old British-Australian man, faces charges of murder, body concealment, body tampering, and sexual misconduct involving a minor aged between 15 and 18 in connection with the case. The parents of the victim expressed their disbelief and sorrow, hoping against hope that their daughter would be found alive.

Her stepmother, Oradee Bussarakum, described the heartbreaking moment when they received the tragic news, indicating that they never anticipated such a horrific outcome. The victim’s father, Thongchai Donhomla, remembered his daughter as a caring and independent individual who always found ways to help others despite her own challenges.

After being reported missing by friends, Tunchanok’s parents traveled from their home in Kalasin province to search for her in Pattaya, where she had only recently arrived for a brief visit. The parents revealed that the teenager had expressed a desire to see the sea and had taken some money from her grandmother for the trip.

This visit marked Tunchanok’s first time in the city known for its vibrant nightlife, and her parents had trusted her to travel with a friend. The suspect in her murder, Simon Carman, was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Thai authorities allege that he picked up the victim from a popular area in Pattaya and later reported her as missing when she failed to contact her friends.

Despite Carman’s claims that the victim disappeared while he was asleep, police believe he is responsible for her death, citing defensive wounds on his body consistent with a struggle. Carman has denied the accusations, stating that he acted in self-defense during a confrontation with the victim over payment.

If convicted, Carman could face severe penalties in Thailand, including life imprisonment or even the death penalty. The case remains under investigation as authorities seek justice for the tragic loss of Tunchanok Donhomla.
