A popular US amusement park is in its final weeks of operation after nearly 40 years in business. Fun Spot America, located in Atlanta, Georgia, originally known as Dixieland Fun Park since 1990, will be closing its doors for the last time on August 2. Acquired by the Fun Spot America Theme Parks group based in Orlando in 2017, the park features 14 major rides, including three high-speed roller coasters and a 40-foot go-kart track. Additionally, it offers Georgia’s sole legal bungee-jumping tower and a variety of family-friendly rides for younger visitors.
While the exact reason for the closure remains undisclosed by the owners, financial constraints due to aging attractions often lead to unprofitability and maintenance challenges for theme parks, as reported by The Street. The park’s management has stated that they will personally contact customers with scheduled school or group trips beyond the closing date. Guests holding gift cards or season passes are advised to utilize them before the shutdown.
The Fun Spot portfolio includes two other operating locations in Orlando and Kissimmee, unaffected by the closure of the Atlanta park. The future of the current park site and the fate of its rides post-closure remain undisclosed to the public. The decision to cease operations was described as “extremely difficult” by CEO John Arie Jr., acknowledging the hard work of the Atlanta team and the support from the Fayetteville community.
In a message shared on their Instagram page on June 25, Fun Spot America encouraged visitors to make their final memories and enjoy one last ride before the park’s closure. This closure adds to the growing list of theme parks shutting down in recent times.
