A grieving mother reveals that her daughter purchased 18 wine bottles in the week leading up to her death, asserting that alcohol delivery services enabled her addiction without detection. Teri discloses that her daughter, Carla, managed to have large quantities of alcohol delivered to her residence despite her deteriorating health condition, which hindered her ability to even walk to nearby stores.

In the days before her passing, Carla, a mother of one, utilized delivery platforms to order the 18 wine bottles. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with cirrhosis, a liver condition resulting from prolonged liver damage, and tragically passed away at 38 years old.

Now aged 64, Teri is advocating for supermarkets and delivery companies to implement protective measures to prevent vulnerable individuals from ordering excessive amounts of alcohol online. Reflecting on her daughter’s struggle, Teri expressed regret for not intervening earlier, emphasizing that Carla’s addiction remained concealed until it was too late. She recounts offering support for rehabilitation, only to witness Carla’s reluctance to seek help.

Teri, who works as a foster carer, explains that Carla’s drinking habits escalated following a series of challenging events, including a miscarriage, a difficult breakup, and a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Concerns about Carla’s alcohol consumption surfaced when Teri’s grandson alerted her to the severity of the situation, prompting her to urge Carla to seek medical assistance.

The distressing turn of events unfolded when Carla, in a critical health state, contacted Teri while the latter was on vacation in Spain. Rushing back home, Teri discovered the gravity of Carla’s condition and bid her farewell five months after the cirrhosis diagnosis in December 2023.

Driven by her tragic loss, Teri has initiated a petition calling for a reevaluation of alcohol delivery practices to safeguard vulnerable adults from similar fates. She highlights the loophole in current regulations, where accountability shifts between supermarkets and delivery services, leaving vulnerable individuals at risk. Teri emphasizes the urgent need for stricter controls to prevent the devastating consequences of unchecked alcohol consumption.
