A man, identified as Joshua Kerry, was seen smiling while holding a container of Easter eggs, suspected of being involved in the murder case of Ann Widdecombe. Authorities have linked Kerry to the incident where the 78-year-old former Conservative minister was fatally attacked in her residence in Devon. Kerry, aged 28, was apprehended at his residence in Rotherham, South Yorkshire by counter-terrorism police last Saturday.
Initially, law enforcement viewed Widdecombe’s death as a burglary gone awry. However, Kerry was re-apprehended two days later under suspicion of terrorism-related offenses. He is currently detained for interrogation, with the possibility of an extension being sought by investigators on Tuesday.
Photographs of Kerry, dressed in jeans and a green shirt, were taken in 2022, displaying a cheerful demeanor. Widdecombe was tragically killed in her home just before a scheduled appearance on a television show. The incident occurred at 12:30 pm in her bungalow located near Dartmoor National Park, where she resided alone with her cat.
The discovery of Widdecombe’s body in the kitchen came nearly a day after her demise. The prominent political figure had a longstanding career in politics, serving as a Member of Parliament, Member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party, and spokesperson for Reform UK. Widdecombe’s untimely death prompted condolences from various political figures, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.
Tributes poured in for Widdecombe, with Home Secretary Mahmood highlighting her dedication to public service and distinctive style in politics. Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, also praised Widdecombe’s contributions to public life and urged caution in making statements that could impact any potential legal proceedings.
Counter Terrorism Policing assumed control of the investigation into Widdecombe’s death following initial assessments that ruled out political motives.
