In a tragic incident in Baundi, Uttar Pradesh, a 12-year-old boy named Sunil was attacked by a crocodile while washing his hands in the river with his uncle. Shocking footage captured the moment the reptile emerged from the water and dragged Sunil into its jaws, despite desperate attempts to save him.
The attack occurred at 6pm as Sunil and his uncle, Vijay Raj Singh, were cleaning up after planting rice seedlings. Despite efforts from bystanders using bricks, stones, and sticks, the crocodile could not be stopped as it thrashed the boy before retreating into the water with him.
After a frantic search, Sunil’s body was recovered several hours later, showing signs of severe injuries. Authorities confirmed the authenticity of the distressing footage circulating after the incident.
Sunil, an orphan under the care of his uncle, leaves behind siblings. Local reports mention that the state plans to compensate his family with a sum of 400,000 INR (£3,091) following his tragic death. Forest officials are closely monitoring the area, although residents have historically used the river for daily activities despite the presence of crocodiles.
