New weather maps reveal a sudden cool spell approaching, marking the end of the recent heatwave.

On Friday, temperatures soared to 31.3C in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and 30.8C in Usk, Monmouthshire, under clear skies, continuing the hot spell across the UK.

However, a shift in weather patterns is expected, with a 5C drop anticipated as early as Sunday, as cold air from the north displaces the existing high pressure system towards mainland Europe. The recent heatwave was caused by a warm “Sahara plume” originating from Africa and moving across the UK.

Latest temperature projections from WXCHARTS using MetDesk data indicate decreasing temperatures, especially in Scotland and Northeast England. The Met Office also confirms this trend, as reported by Express.co.uk.

In contrast, parts of Spain and Italy are set to experience scorching temperatures reaching 44C by Thursday, while the UK will see milder conditions with the Southwest of England enjoying the best of the warmth, although temperatures are unlikely to exceed 16C.

The Met Office warns of possible showers in northern regions, with increasing cloud cover leading to patchy rain in those areas.

MetDesk data shows that over 35 counties, including Greater Manchester and Lancashire, will experience temperatures below 10C in the upcoming days starting from Sunday.
