An elderly couple, Colin and Claudette Geraghty, who fled a care home they dislike, have not returned even a week later. Their daughter, Linda McKelvie, is urging them to go back to Ryman Nellie Melba Retirement Village in Melbourne, Australia, from where they went missing on July 11 and were later found in Maryborough, 118 miles away.

Despite being located, the couple, aged 89 and 83, are currently staying in a motel and are adamant about not going back to the nursing home. Linda praised her parents, who have been married for 65 years, for taking care of each other but emphasized the importance of the care home’s support.

Linda revealed that Colin and Claudette are staying put in the motel due to their dissatisfaction with the care home arrangements. She expressed pride in their deep bond and recounted how they managed to escape, hinting they might attempt another getaway. The couple had been moved to an aged-care facility because Claudette, who suffers from seizures and vascular dementia, needed constant care.

The Geraghty family is concerned for their safety following the unexpected departure and has been urging them to return via text messages. However, Colin reassured his family that they would be fine in a message sent on the day they left, promising to take care of Claudette.

The couple’s decision to remain away has left their family anxious, with Colin’s message providing some reassurance amid the uncertainty.
