A ‘suspicious’ house explosion in Bristol has claimed the lives of two individuals. Law enforcement has categorized it as a major incident and dispatched bomb disposal units.

The incident occurred at a residence on Sterncourt Road in the Frenchay vicinity at approximately 6:30 am, prompting the deployment of armed police. As a precaution, residents were relocated to an emergency “temporary rest center” set up at the nearby Snuff Mill Harvester pub.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise in the morning followed by smoke emanating from one of the houses. Authorities from Avon and Somerset Police established a white tent at the scene, subsequently expanding the cordon to include the intersection of Froomshaw Road.

Law enforcement has declared the incident as suspicious and confirmed that it is not linked to terrorism. While no additional suspects are being sought, police are conducting investigations at a property in Speedwell believed to be connected to the explosion.

A resident who was relocated to the Harvester pub recounted hearing a loud bang at 6:30 am, going outside, and being instructed to return indoors by armed police. The neighbor observed smoke billowing from one of the residences.

Emergency services are currently responding to an ongoing incident in Bristol with a cordon in place.

At approximately 6:30 am today (Sunday, May 3), an explosion was reported at a residential location on Sterncourt Road.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under suspicion, leading to the declaration of a major incident.

Two adults have tragically lost their lives at the site, and their families have been notified. Emergency responders are following established protocols in managing this situation.

While investigations are in the initial stages, no other individuals are being sought in connection with this incident.

A safety cordon has been enforced as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety. Affected residents within the cordon are being directed to a temporary shelter. There are no reports of significant damage to neighboring properties.

Authorities are also conducting inquiries at a property in Speedwell associated with this incident.

Given the recent adjustment to the UK threat level, it is clarified that this is not being treated as a suspected terrorist act.

The public is urged to refrain from speculating on the circumstances and to avoid the area while emergency services handle the situation.
