Embarking on our first cruise, my friend Paul’s confession about getting seasick on rowing boats initially worried me. Despite his apprehension, we set sail on P&O’s Azura from the Port of Santa Cruz, aiming to enjoy the Canary Islands and Madeira. Our adventure began with a visit to Tenerife’s Mount Teide, where we experienced a unique blend of winter landscapes and warm sunlight. Ascending the 3,715-meter volcano in a cable car revealed a stunning snow-covered summit, contrasting sharply with the volcanic terrain below.
Each port we visited, including Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, offered diverse excursions that felt like stepping onto alien worlds. From exploring Timanfaya National Park’s volcanic landscapes to savoring local wines and cheeses in Gran Canaria, our days were filled with awe-inspiring experiences. The Azura, boasting over 1500 cabins across 14 decks, provided ample amenities like multiple pools, a gym, spa, and various dining options.
With two sea days interspersed between destinations, we had time to unwind and fully enjoy the ship’s offerings. Indulging in the spa’s serene atmosphere and sampling gourmet dishes at restaurants like Epicurean and Sindhu added a touch of luxury to our voyage. The diverse culinary options, from fine dining to Caribbean-Mexican fusion, catered to all tastes and preferences.
The cruise experience, with its mix of relaxation, exploration, and entertainment, captivated us both. Whether lounging by the pool, engaging in onboard activities, or relishing in culinary delights, the cruise catered to every desire and budget. The variety of experiences onboard truly appealed to all types of travelers, making it a perfect holiday choice for couples, families, and friends alike.
Enthralled by the cruise experience, I am already looking forward to my next voyage, not waiting another 25 years to set sail.
