Tributes are being honored for a six-year-old boy who tragically passed away after being struck by a car in Cheshire. The incident, involving a black Infiniti FX30D, occurred on Anchor Drive in Ellesmere Port around 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, according to Cheshire Police.
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, attended the scene near Whitby Sports and Social Club, where the child and his family were met before he was transported to the Countess of Chester Hospital. Despite efforts, the young boy succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His relatives have been notified and are receiving support from specialized officers.
Following the tragic event, a 48-year-old man was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving without a proper license. He has been released on bail pending further investigation.
The boy, identified as Kanan-Jay, has been remembered in a heartfelt tribute on the fundraising platform JustGiving. The fundraiser aims to assist the grieving family in giving him a fitting farewell. The campaign has already raised over £9,000 in support. Floral tributes and messages like “Rest in peace little man. Forever 6” and “Among the angels now. Goodbye little man” have been left at the scene on Anchor Drive.
Local witnesses reported a significant police presence in the area following the tragic incident, with a cordon in place for several hours. Cheshire Police is urging anyone with information or footage related to the collision to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Iain Condliffe emphasized the importance of the investigation, stating, “We are dedicated to uncovering the details surrounding this tragic incident. We urge anyone who witnessed the collision on Anchor Drive or has video footage to reach out to us. Additionally, we are seeking information from those present during the child’s treatment near Whitby Sports and Social Club.”
