The latest promotional move by Reform has backfired, escalating into a crisis for Nigel Farage. The party faced criticism for organizing a contentious energy bill giveaway, where the winner was promised free energy bills for a year for themselves and their entire street.

June, a loyal Reform supporter from Wigan, emerged as the winner. However, neighbors on her street allege they have not received any benefits. Nigel Farage shared a video on social media presenting flowers to June and her husband, accompanied by a large ceremonial check held by Robert Jenrick, the party’s treasury spokesperson.

The competition drew suspicion when social media users noticed a photo of Farage with the winning couple at a Brexit event in 2019, leading to speculation that he may have had prior knowledge of the winners. In a subsequent post on a local Reform UK page, the winners were described as “loyal party members.”

Several residents on St Malo Road in Wigan claim they have not received any winnings, despite assurances that every household would be contacted about claiming their prize. Angie Ecclestone expressed disappointment at being excluded from the distribution and highlighted the disparity in treatment among residents.

Matt Johnson, another neighbor, expected to be notified about his winnings but has not heard anything yet. He emphasized the impact of the energy bill savings on his annual expenses. Fraser Hayes, who is not a supporter of the party, indicated that he would donate his winnings to charity if he receives them.

The situation has shifted from an energy giveaway to a potential public relations crisis, with residents seeking clarity on Reform Party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises. Reports from The Telegraph reveal that half the residents on the street in Greater Manchester have not received any correspondence regarding the competition.

In response to the concerns, a spokesperson for Reform UK assured that all households on the street would be covered, as initially promised. The Greater Manchester Police are investigating a complaint related to the competition, while Farage remains unfazed by allegations of electoral rule violations.

GMP confirmed receiving a report on the matter and stated that they are currently assessing it. The Mirror has reached out to GMP for additional insights.
