A young father, described as “much loved,” tragically lost his life in a devastating accident just three weeks after the birth of his son, leaving his family shattered. Callan Towle, 24, from Hull, was in the front seat of a vehicle that collided with a telegraph pole on September 10, 2023, in Fieldsend Lane, Burton Pidsea, Holderness. The crash also injured two other passengers in the back seats.
Following a trial at Hull Crown Court, the driver of the car, who was cleared of causing Mr. Towle’s death by careless driving, was also acquitted of causing serious injuries to the rear-seat passengers. Prosecutors alleged that the driver briefly lost control of his black VW Polo while driving with three friends around 8 pm.
The incident occurred on a wide left ‘S’ bend on a rural road outside Burton Pidsea, where the car grazed an oncoming vehicle’s wing mirror. The driver of the oncoming car had to swerve onto the grass verge to avoid a collision as the VW Polo spun, struck a telegraph pole, and knocked it down due to the impact. Despite being rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary, Mr. Towle did not survive, while the two rear-seat passengers suffered severe injuries.
In a heartfelt statement, Mr. Towle’s family expressed their profound loss, describing him as a cherished son, brother, uncle, and father who brought joy and warmth to those around him. They mourned the irreplaceable gap left by his untimely death and the pain of his son growing up without his presence. The family emphasized that Callan will always be remembered and cherished in their hearts.
