Gunshots rang out and chaos ensued during celebrations following the New York Knicks’ victory, with fans setting fire to a school bus and vandalizing vehicles. The scene turned chaotic as revelers lit clothing on fire and threw it into a bus at Times Square, while others danced on top of the vehicle. Photos captured the mayhem as buses were destroyed near the 42nd Street subway station.

In the early hours of the morning, gunshots were reported near 42nd Street and Broadway, causing panic among the crowd. Despite the commotion, there were no reported injuries. The Knicks secured a 94-90 win against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, ultimately clinching the series with a 4-1 victory.

Following the win, rowdy fans clashed with law enforcement, causing damage to property and engaging in reckless behavior. The NYPD made multiple arrests, with more expected to follow. Knicks owner James Dolan, speaking from San Antonio, urged fans to remain calm and enjoy the celebrations safely.

The city plans to honor the Knicks with a parade and ceremony on Thursday to commemorate their third championship win in the team’s 80-year history. The night ended in jubilation as fans celebrated across New York City, with fireworks lighting up the sky and chants of “Go New York, Go New York, Go!” echoing through the streets.

Notable figures, including President Donald Trump, praised the team’s performance, hailing their playoff victories as historic. Despite previous incidents of violence during the playoffs, authorities called for responsible behavior and unity among the celebrants. Mayor Zohran Mamdani emphasized the importance of safety and community during the festivities, urging everyone to uphold the city’s values.
