England’s soccer team was instructed to find shelter following a tornado alert in Kansas City on Saturday night. The team had moved to Kansas City from Miami for their upcoming match against Croatia, but their preparations were disrupted by the severe weather warning.

Before the storm hit, Thomas Tuchel’s players were conducting an open training session until a notification was issued to all local residents. The alert warned of a severe thunderstorm with destructive 80 mph winds, advising people to seek shelter in a sturdy building away from windows to avoid flying debris.

The ominous warning spread across the city, prompting fans planning to attend the FIFA Fan Festival in Kansas City to change their plans due to the closure of the venue at 5 pm. Although England continued their training at Swope Soccer Village, the session was rescheduled to the late afternoon.

The entire metro area remained under a tornado watch until 11 pm, causing widespread power outages and disrupting the broadcast of the Scotland vs. Haiti World Cup match. The US National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes touching down in the area, leaving over 68,000 homes without power and prompting emergency responses to address fallen trees and power lines.

Additionally, the chaotic weather added to England’s challenges at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a recent theft incident at their training base. Despite the setbacks, the national team is gearing up for their upcoming matches against Croatia, Ghana, and Panama in the Group L schedule.
