An extensive fire at Star Trading Estate in Caerleon, Newport, Wales, has prompted an evacuation due to significant smoke emissions and concerns about potential water supply issues. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene around 2:40 am to address the sizable industrial fire, urging people to steer clear of the vicinity.
The fire department has deployed 10 vehicles, including an aerial ladder platform and specialized equipment, to combat the incident. Some local residents have reported water problems, such as discolored or no water, although the direct link to the fire remains uncertain. Welsh Water Dwr Cymru has alerted customers in the area about possible water disruptions, aiming to restore full service by early afternoon.
In collaboration with Gwent Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is managing the situation, resulting in the closure of Ponthir Road in both directions near the affected area. Barney’s Cafe, located within the trading estate, has closed due to the severity of the situation, expressing uncertainty about the impact on their business until they can return safely.
