Despite the legal ordeal, the couple persisted in proclaiming their innocence and eventually, in 2015, were absolved of all accusations by Italy’s highest judicial authority. Over a decade later, now 39 years old and residing in rural Washington, Amanda Knox is prepared to share her narrative on stage.
Originally intending to craft a show centered on motherhood, Knox was advised by her comedian peers to confront her past publicly. Her comedy performance titled “Cartwheel” alludes to a false account suggesting she executed cartwheels at a police station following her friend’s demise.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Knox expressed her belief that no subject should be off-limits for comedy, yet she emphasized her refusal to mock Meredith Kercher’s tragic death. While open to humor about her vilification, Knox drew a personal boundary regarding the murder itself.
In response to concerns about potential backlash from loved ones, Knox humorously mentioned a line she delivers on stage about her impeccable public reputation. Nonetheless, reports from The Telegraph indicate that Ms. Kercher’s relatives, as communicated by their lawyer Francesco Maresca, have criticized Knox’s show as “offensive and deplorable.”
Addressing the situation, Knox expressed a desire to engage with the Kercher family, highlighting her eagerness to communicate with them for the first time and clarify her perspective. She stressed the importance of sharing a mutual sense of loss and the need to tell her side of the story, acknowledging Meredith’s significant role in her life.
Confident that her show encapsulates the essence of youth and honesty, Knox believes that Ms. Kercher would appreciate its message and even find it amusing. Having previously recounted her experiences through various mediums, including documentaries and books, Amanda Knox continues to engage with her past while Rudy Hermann Guede, the individual convicted of Meredith Kercher’s murder, was released from prison in 2021 after serving a 16-year sentence.
