Prince Harry shared his thoughts on England’s defeat in the World Cup at a public event in New York City. The Duke of Sussex made a surprise appearance at TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in Sports event, where he was recognized for his role in establishing the Invictus Games. When asked about England’s loss in the World Cup semi-finals to Argentina, Harry responded honestly, expressing his sadness.
His brother, Prince William, also commented on England’s performance, stating he was “gutted” by the outcome but commended the team for their remarkable effort throughout the tournament. William praised the squad for their dedication and resilience, calling them the most complete England team in a competition.
During the event in New York City, Harry praised the photographers, calling them the most polite he had ever encountered. TIME honored Harry for his work with the Invictus Games, an international adaptive sports competition he founded for armed forces personnel and veterans worldwide. Harry explained that witnessing the transformative power of sports inspired him to expand the games globally, aiming to benefit more countries.
Recently, Harry visited the UK to mark the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Accompanied by his wife Meghan Markle and their children Archie and Lilibet, the family was hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove for a private family gathering. This visit marked the first time the monarch had seen Archie and Lilibet in more than four years, while Meghan and Harry had not visited the UK together since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
