Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, decided to break a long-standing tradition just before their royal wedding, which happened six years ago today. The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Windsor on July 17, 2020, adhering to Covid social distancing rules. Among the guests were the late Queen, Prince Philip, Princess Eugenie, and Beatrice’s parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, with Edo’s son, Wolfie, serving as the best man.
Despite the adjustments due to the pandemic, including the cancellation of their original plans two months prior, Princess Beatrice and Edo managed to have a rehearsal dinner with close friends and family. Notably, they chose to forgo one significant tradition by spending the night together before exchanging vows, a departure from the usual practice of couples spending the night apart.
While most royals traditionally keep to this custom, opting to stay separated until the ceremony, Princess Kate, for instance, spent the night before her wedding at the Goring Hotel in London with her mother and sister, while Prince William stayed at Clarence House with his family.
In a similar fashion, Meghan Markle and her mother spent the evening before her wedding at Cliveden House Hotel, while Prince Harry and Prince William stayed at Coworth Park. Beatrice and Edo shared glimpses of their special day the day after their wedding, delaying the release to avoid overshadowing Captain Tom Moore’s knighthood by the late Queen.
The couple showcased their wedding attire, including Beatrice’s vintage dress by Norman Hartnell borrowed from The Queen and the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, a piece borrowed from Her Majesty The Queen, which the monarch wore on her own wedding day.
