The death toll has climbed to 32 in the aftermath of a massive blaze at a music bar in Bangkok. The fire that engulfed Rong Beer Na Ladprao bar last Sunday is said to be the deadliest in the city in 17 years, leaving over 70 people injured, with 30 still in hospitals, including 15 in intensive care units, as reported by the Erawan emergency services center in Thailand’s capital.

Survivors and families of the victims visited a nearby police station on Wednesday to request compensation, retrieve belongings, and provide statements about the incident.

Preliminary information on the victims, last updated on Monday, revealed that the bar, referred to as a brewery or beer hall in Thai, could accommodate up to 600 patrons. The exact number present during the fire on Sunday night remains unclear.

An ongoing investigation is looking into the cause of the fire and whether the bar adhered to safety regulations. Authorities mentioned that many of the deceased were discovered trapped in windowless bathrooms, presumably seeking refuge from the flames.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced on Tuesday that a comprehensive survey of similar establishments will be conducted to evaluate risks, and stricter enforcement of safety standards will be implemented.

Former customers and mourners paid their respects at the site on Tuesday, leaving flowers and messages in various languages. Debris from the bar, including damaged musical instruments and charred furniture, was observed on the sidewalk as part of the fire investigation.

The bar issued an apology and condolences on Facebook on Monday, pledging full cooperation with the ongoing investigations. They also established a Coordination Center to assist victims and their families and are actively providing support in various capacities.

For further updates and information regarding the incident, affected individuals are encouraged to follow the official communication channel on the Lad Prao Beer Shop Facebook page. The bar expressed gratitude to all those who have assisted and shown concern for the victims and reiterated their commitment to collaborating with authorities and supporting those affected.
