A man was taken into custody following the discovery of a deceased man in his 60s outside a residence engulfed in flames. The incident occurred on Wargon Crescent in Glenmore Park around 1 am on Thursday when emergency services responded to a reported fire. Upon arrival, they found the body of the older man with severe burns outside the partially burning house.
During a press briefing, law enforcement confirmed the arrest of a 36-year-old man who has a criminal record and is familiar to authorities. It was revealed that the suspect and the deceased individual were related. The Nepean Police Area Commander Superintendent Trent King mentioned that a forensic analysis would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities clarified that there was no prior history of domestic violence between the two men but noted an altercation took place following a break-in at the property, where the front door showed signs of forced entry. Additionally, an accelerant was suspected to have been used, although further details regarding the events inside the property remain unknown.
According to a statement from NSW police, the body was found at the scene by officers from Nepean Police Area Command. Fire and Rescue NSW managed to extinguish the fire, and a crime scene was established for investigative purposes. Subsequently, the 36-year-old suspect was apprehended in a vehicle on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, early on the same day.
The suspect, who sustained minor injuries, received medical treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Nepean Hospital under police supervision. As the investigation progresses, individuals with relevant information, CCTV footage, or dashcam recordings are encouraged to contact Nepean Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers.
Currently, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
