Whether you love them or cringe at them, dad jokes are an integral part of family dynamics. A recent survey of 2,000 individuals in the UK has unveiled the top dad joke of the nation just in time for Father’s Day weekend: “I’m on a seafood diet… I see food and I eat it” claimed the top spot with 18% of the votes.

Close contenders included jokes like “I only know 25 letters of the alphabet… I don’t know y”, “Two guys walked into a bar. The third guy ducked”, and “Yesterday I was washing the car with my son. He said, ‘Dad, can’t you just use a sponge?’” – all making it to the list of the nation’s favorite cringe-worthy dad jokes.

Despite the divisive nature of dad jokes, a majority of respondents expressed their fondness for these cheesy puns. More than half of those surveyed by Bloom & Wild acknowledged that their fathers are among the funniest people they know.

Furthermore, nearly one in five individuals mentioned that their dads have the ability to bring a smile to their faces, even on the toughest days. Additionally, 14% claimed that their father’s sense of humor is unparalleled.

However, every great dad joke comes with a side of embarrassment. Almost 20% of respondents admitted that their fathers often laugh at their own jokes, while 16% find themselves frequently rolling their eyes at the predictable puns.

The research also highlighted that fathers are cherished for more than just their comedic timing, with 21% of Brits describing their dads as their “rock.”

As Father’s Day approaches, almost 30% of respondents are planning to give their dads meaningful gifts. Popular gift choices include a bottle of whisky (13%), craft beer or ale (12%), a personalized T-shirt (11%), and a bag of favorite sweets (10%).

Jess Henderson, a gifting expert at Bloom & Wild, commented: “Father’s Day provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the unique qualities of dads, from their humor to their unwavering support.

“For many, Father’s Day is a crucial moment to express gratitude to our dads for all that they do and to establish a genuine emotional connection. It is common to hear that men can be challenging to shop for, with no universal gift option, leading to settling for clichés that may not reflect our true feelings.”
