Jonathan Andic, aged 45, who was arrested under suspicion of murdering his father, a billionaire, has shared new video evidence in an effort to assert his innocence. The incident occurred 17 months after his father Isak, co-founder of the clothing retailer Mango, tragically fell approximately 500 feet to his death while hiking near Barcelona.
After posting a bail of €1 million (£866,000), Jonathan was released from custody and continues to maintain his innocence, vehemently denying the serious and unfounded allegations against him.
The newly released CCTV footage, presented by Jonathan’s legal team, depicts a moment where his father is seen stumbling and falling outside a building in Barcelona, being assisted by two individuals nearby. This incident reportedly occurred around ten months before the fatal mountain fall.
Prosecutors have contended that the absence of defensive marks on Isak’s hands indicates a deliberate act of pushing him off the cliff, as typical defensive palm injuries are commonly found in accidental fall victims. However, Andic’s defense team argues that the fall captured in the video explains the absence of defensive injuries, having conducted a biomechanical analysis comparing the fall on the pavement to the cliff edge.
Moreover, the defense filing highlights the inconclusive results of the mountain rescue unit’s simulations of the incident, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of the fall.
In response to the ongoing case, Jonathan has chosen to temporarily step away from his responsibilities at Mango. He has refuted the murder accusations as baseless and unjust, criticizing the one-sided and distorted public narrative that has led to a skewed perception of his guilt.
Jonathan has also addressed investigators’ assertions of a toxic relationship, emphasizing the positive moments shared with his father and acknowledging the challenges they faced together as a family.
Mango’s board of directors has expressed confidence that the legal process will be resolved favorably and swiftly.
