A man, aged 66, faces charges of attempted murder in connection with an alleged car bomb incident targeting Dunmurry Police Station in Northern Ireland. Additionally, he is accused of possessing explosives with the intent to harm, causing an explosion likely to endanger life, possessing materials for terrorism, and hijacking.
The suspect was apprehended in the Dunmurry region and taken into custody under the Terrorism Act. He is scheduled to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, with all charges subject to review by the Public Prosecution Service.
Reports indicate that a delivery driver’s vehicle was commandeered in the Twinbrook area of west Belfast, allegedly equipped with a gas cylinder device. The driver was then instructed to drive to Dunmurry Police Station, where the car exploded during an evacuation process. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The New IRA, a dissident republican organization, has purportedly claimed responsibility for the incident, as reported by The Irish News. This group had also previously asserted involvement in a similar event in Co Armagh.
