A resident in Port Glasgow, Scotland, named Belle Deans, has spoken out about a distressing situation where her access to her own garden has been blocked by a pool of sewage, leaving her feeling too embarrassed to leave her home. The issue arose due to faulty pipework at a neighboring property, resulting in waste, including human feces, accumulating outside Belle’s back door, causing significant distress.

The sewage problem has created an unbearable living environment for Belle, forcing her to make difficult choices between dealing with foul odors inside her house or enduring dampness by keeping windows closed. Belle has faced previous incidents of sewage backing up into her home, leading to prolonged inconveniences and fears of recurrence without prompt action.

Feeling ashamed and isolated, Belle’s mental and physical health has deteriorated, exacerbating existing depression and anxiety. The situation has taken a toll on her energy levels, making it challenging for her to cope with daily activities and causing apprehension about returning home after being outside.

Another resident, Linda Kernican, living adjacent to Belle, also expressed disgust over the situation, describing it as sickening and damaging to her living space. Despite attempts to contact the landlords, including Czech Real, no response was received regarding the issue.

Concerning responsibility for the problem, Belle’s landlord, Chesnutt Skeoch, and RCH, managing a neighboring property, are engaged in a dispute regarding who should address the sewage and dampness issue. While Chesnutt Skeoch claims that RCH is accountable for fixing the guttering causing the problem, RCH has indicated that the downpipe configuration from a specific property is leading to excess water entering Belle’s property.

Efforts have been made to address the issue, with minor remedial works carried out to alleviate the immediate impact on the affected property. However, a permanent resolution requires an independent downpipe for the problematic property, which falls under the responsibility of its owners. Both parties are committed to maintaining the affected block and resolving the situation effectively.
