Three individuals have been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman on Brighton beach in a calculated and heartless attack. Ibrahim Alshafe, Abdulla Ahmadi, and Karin Al-Danasurt, all asylum seekers, were found guilty at Hove Crown Court for assaulting the woman after she became separated from her friends during a night out.

The court was informed that the woman was targeted by the men while she was in a vulnerable state in the early hours of October 4 last year. She reported hearing laughter during the assault as the men took her behind a beach hut in East Sussex where she was raped, with one of them recording the incident.

Alshafe and Ahmadi were convicted of multiple rape charges, while Al-Danasurt was found guilty on all counts of rape as an accessory by encouraging and filming the assault. The jury reached their decisions after over 12 hours of deliberation following a five-week trial.

Evidence presented to the jurors included footage showing Alshafe smiling and behaving aggressively towards the woman. The defendants claimed in court that the encounter was consensual, but the victim vehemently denied this, stating that she was subjected to violence and abuse.

The victim recounted being physically assaulted and humiliated during the attack, with the perpetrators showing no regard for her well-being. The court also heard that DNA evidence linked Alshafe and Ahmadi to the assault, while Al-Danasurt’s DNA sample was inconclusive.

All three individuals were known to each other and were residing in Home Office-approved accommodation for asylum seekers at the time of the incident. They were seen in a Snapchat video at their hotel before heading to Brighton on the night of the assault.

The prosecution argued that the assault was premeditated, with Alshafe displaying predatory behavior towards women earlier in the evening. Following the attack, the men returned to their accommodation and engaged in leisure activities, displaying a callous disregard for the victim’s suffering.

Ahmadi attempted to evade authorities by relocating to a different address, where he was arrested shortly after. Alshafe and Al-Danasurt were apprehended at their accommodation and faced legal consequences for their actions.

In light of the evidence presented, the defendants’ claims of consent were refuted, and the victim’s harrowing experience underscored the brutality of the assault. The court proceedings highlighted the severity of the crime and its profound impact on the victim’s life.
