Workers at Stansted Airport are planning to go on strike in May following the rejection of a pay offer. Approximately 100 employees of ABM will participate in industrial action from May 3 to May 6, citing dissatisfaction with the proposed wage increase. These workers, who play essential roles such as assisting passengers during travel, had initially intended to strike from April 17 to 20 but postponed it to vote on a revised pay offer.

Unite, the labor union representing the workers, expressed discontent with the situation, labeling it as “unacceptable.” Unite’s general secretary, Sharon Graham, emphasized the financial challenges faced by ABM staff despite the company’s significant profits. The union reiterated its full support for the affected workers.

In a statement, Unite confirmed the upcoming industrial action by its members responsible for assisting passengers with disabilities at London Stansted Airport. The strike is scheduled for May 3 to May 6, coinciding with the first May bank holiday weekend. ABM workers argue that the pay offer they rejected failed to address their concerns about low wages, with many earning below the London Living Wage of £14.80. ABM, a financially successful global corporation, reported a revenue of $2.2 billion in March, marking a 6.1% increase from the previous year.

The Mirror has reached out to ABM for comment on the situation.
