A widow shared her heartbreaking experience when her husband’s GPS tracker alerted her about an accident before authorities informed her of his death. Paula Overton, 32, received a text message from her husband Ben’s Garmin watch while he was cycling home from work. Tragically, an hour later, she learned that he had been killed in a head-on collision with a car on a country road in Crawley, Sussex.

Recalling the devastating day of Ben’s passing, Paula mentioned that she sensed something was wrong even before the police arrived at her door. She described how she had received an automated message from Ben’s device, indicating an incident and providing coordinates that led her to worry about his safety. After contacting emergency services and anxiously awaiting news, she eventually learned about the accident and later faced the heartbreaking confirmation of Ben’s death from a police officer.

Ben and Paula, who had met in college and shared a long-distance relationship before getting married in 2019, had their lives shattered by the tragic event. Despite the lack of updates from the authorities due to ongoing investigations, Paula persisted in seeking justice for her late husband. After a legal battle, the driver involved in the collision accepted partial liability, providing Paula with some closure and allowing her to move forward.

Expressing her emotions, Paula emphasized the pain of losing Ben and the struggle to find closure and justice in the aftermath of his untimely death. The legal process, including an inquest and subsequent actions by solicitors, finally brought some clarity and accountability regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.

Victoria Martin from Fletchers Solicitors acknowledged the immense hardship Paula endured over the years and expressed hope that their legal efforts had provided her with answers and a sense of justice for Ben.
