Amanda Knox, who has faced two convictions and two acquittals for murder, has spoken out about the injustice suffered by Andrew Malkinson, wrongfully accused of being a rapist. Knox describes the situation as “absolutely horrifying,” emphasizing the miscarriage of justice in Malkinson’s case.

Knox empathizes with Malkinson, who spent 17 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. She highlights the familiar pattern of wrongful convictions, where authorities fixate on the wrong suspect, only to later discover the true perpetrator, leaving lives shattered in the process.

Recently, Paul Quinn was sentenced to 24 years for the rape, a verdict that Malkinson, a former security guard, considers an insult. Knox draws parallels between Malkinson’s ordeal and her own experience of being imprisoned in Italy for almost four years following a wrongful conviction in the murder case of her roommate, Meredith Kercher.

Reflecting on her initial night in jail, Knox shares her belief that Malkinson likely felt the same disbelief and hope for eventual vindication. She stresses the importance of institutions upholding truth and justice beyond any reasonable doubt.

Now leading a family life with her husband, US author Christopher Robinson, and their children, Knox also addresses the issue of misogyny in her own case. She points out the scrutiny and bias she faced, portraying her as a “femme fatale,” a narrative she believes was crafted to incriminate her.

Drawing parallels, Knox sees a similar bias in the case of Lucy Letby, a former nurse serving a life sentence for infant murders. Knox, now hosting a podcast on Letby’s case, leans towards her innocence and offers support, acknowledging the challenges faced by wrongly convicted individuals, including the risk of death in prison.

Knox, now residing in Seattle, USA, continues to honor the memory of Meredith Kercher daily. She reflects on the impact of Kercher’s life and the unfair, unsafe world women navigate. Knox concludes by emphasizing the profound influence Meredith had on her life, especially as she raises her own children in a world she perceives as unjust and unkind to women.
