Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to an all-time low. The company has launched a surprise sale reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
This broadband plan offers speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails for £29.99 per month. However, it is now available for just £26.99 per month, resulting in a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract duration, averaging around 87p per day.
Virgin claims that this deal marks the “lowest ever price” for its Gig1 plan. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD film in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may take more than 90 minutes to download the same game, Virgin’s offer guarantees super-smooth connectivity for activities like streaming Netflix and online gaming.
It is important to note that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice within the minimum contract term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all areas, so prospective customers are advised to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
Comparatively, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal outshines competitors like Sky, which lowered its 900Mbps plan to £28, still offering slower speeds at a higher price. BT, on the other hand, charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection.
While Community Fibre presents a compelling offer of 1Gbps speeds at £25 per month with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract, its services are limited to London and selected south-east locations.
It is crucial for consumers to assess their specific needs before committing to a broadband plan. For instance, a couple streaming Netflix daily may suffice with 100Mbps speeds, whereas larger households engaged in remote work, downloads, and online gaming may require at least 300Mbps for optimal performance.
