A pregnant woman was injured after being attacked at Al-Qamar restaurant in Birmingham. The incident unfolded as Akilah Bennett and her family were preparing to leave the eatery when the woman sought refuge inside, claiming she had been assaulted.
Shortly after, a man brandishing a baseball bat appeared outside the restaurant, causing panic among the diners. Despite initial confusion about the relationship between the attacker and the woman, it became clear they were not acquainted.
Ms. Bennett recounted the harrowing experience, stating that her uncle courageously shielded the woman from the assailant’s blows. The attacker, believed to be a local resident, allegedly targeted the woman without any apparent motive.
Following a confrontation where the attacker was repelled by Bennett’s uncle and others, he reportedly returned wielding a knife. In response, Bennett and her cousin ushered everyone inside the restaurant, ensuring their safety until the police and ambulance arrived.
The police confirmed the incident occurred on Vincent Street just before 10pm, resulting in the woman sustaining a severe arm injury. Witnesses who intervened were also menaced with a knife. Authorities are currently investigating the case, urging anyone with information or footage to come forward.
