Unidentified remains were discovered during the search for a missing American soldier after recent Iranian attacks in Jordan, as confirmed by the US military on Sunday.
The attacks, involving ballistic missiles and drones, occurred on July 17, resulting in the confirmed deaths of two service members. Following the incidents, one soldier was reported missing. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed on July 19 that unidentified remains had been found.
According to a statement from CENTCOM, the search efforts led to the discovery of the unidentified remains at the site earlier that day. The verification process of the remains is currently underway.
Additionally, CENTCOM reported the death of a US service member in northern Iraq on July 18. The incident happened during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian attack drone. Another service member sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
In respect for the families involved, CENTCOM has chosen to withhold further details, including the identities of the missing and deceased service members, until the notification process is completed.
Yesterday, CENTCOM also disclosed that four American service members were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan. With the two recent deaths, the total number of US personnel killed since the conflict with Iran began now stands at least 18.
