Donald Trump recently brought attention to the number of American casualties in the ongoing conflict with Iran, suggesting that the death toll is significantly lower than in past wars. The US president shared these statistics on Truth Social, highlighting the number of US soldiers who lost their lives in the Vietnam, Korean, Iraq, and Afghanistan wars.

In his statement, Trump listed the death tolls from previous conflicts, stating: “Vietnam War: 19 years, 58,220 DEAD. Korean War: 3 years, 36,574 DEAD. Iraq War: 9 years, 4,600 DEAD. Afghanistan War: 20 years, 2,000 DEAD.” He then referred to the conflict with Iran as the “Iran Military Conflict,” noting only “18 DEAD.”

Following this post, which received criticism from various politicians, Trump also mentioned what he called the “Venezuela War,” claiming it lasted one day with no casualties. This statement came shortly after Iran’s attacks on US bases, resulting in the deaths of four American service members and injuries to around 500 others, as reported by the Pentagon.

Since the beginning of the war on February 28, over 3,400 individuals have lost their lives in Iran, including 1,568 civilians and at least 236 children, according to Reuters citing the US-based human rights group HRANA. The figures have not been independently verified.

Several politicians have condemned Trump’s remarks, with some accusing him of downplaying the seriousness of the conflict and disrespecting the fallen soldiers. Former Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Trump for boasting about the 18 deaths, while California Governor Gavin Newsom called him a “disgusting Little Man.”

Rep. Jason Crow, a Colorado Democrat, expressed his disagreement with Trump’s post, emphasizing the importance of honoring the lives lost in service. Trump later announced his intention to visit the Dover Air Force Base to attend the dignified transfer of the four soldiers killed in the recent attacks by Iran in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters, Trump expressed his condolences for the fallen soldiers, highlighting their sacrifice in preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He stated that the US was taking action against Iran in tribute to the deceased troops.
