A tragic incident occurred at Luna Park in Spotorno, Italy, where 15-year-old Alessio Colletti lost his life due to an electric shock while using a fairground football machine. Alessio, a talented young footballer, was on vacation with a friend and the friend’s parents when the accident happened on July 16.

Reports indicate that Alessio, in an attempt to play barefoot, removed one of his shoes before touching the “calciometro” machine, resulting in a fatal electric shock as the safety switch of the attraction failed to function. Despite resuscitation efforts lasting over two hours, Alessio passed away at St Paul’s Hospital in Savona.

Authorities have initiated a manslaughter investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The fairground ride owner, the technician responsible for testing the machine, and the engineer in charge of its annual safety checks are currently under scrutiny. Investigators are focusing on why the life-saving differential switch, intended to cut off power in case of a leak, did not activate.

Following a downpour shortly before the incident, a seized cable and connectors are being examined for potential rain damage. An electrical engineering expert from Turin University will conduct forensic tests as part of the investigation. Alessio’s post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Friday.

In response to the incident, Luna Park has been closed for safety checks and permit verification. Alessio’s football club and local rivals have paid tribute to him, highlighting his promising future in the sport. Family and friends remember Alessio as a talented midfielder with a bright future ahead of him.

The tragic event in Spotorno has sparked concerns about the electrical safety and emergency protocols of aging attractions at traveling fairgrounds. The community mourns the loss of Alessio, emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures at such recreational venues.
