During a vacation hike, a couple of tourists tragically fell to their deaths from a height of 65 feet when the suspension bridge they were crossing collapsed on the island of Flores in Indonesia.

The couple, Astrid, 56, and Jürgen, 54, had been on a tour of Flores when the wooden suspension bridge leading to the Cunca Waterfall collapsed under them, causing them to plunge into the river below filled with rocks.

Their guide witnessed the tragic incident and recounted seeing the couple walking together before the bridge gave way, stating that moments before, they were smiling for a photo.

The collapse of the bridge, as described by the guide, was sudden, with a loud cracking noise resembling a falling tree branch. Photos taken afterward show the bridge missing several planks and severely damaged.

Despite making it only a short distance, the couple could not be saved as authorities confirmed their deaths at the scene.

The retrieval of the bodies posed challenges due to the rugged terrain, with rescue teams having to navigate slippery rocks and steep banks to recover the victims.

Cunca Wulang waterfall, where the tragedy occurred, is a well-known tourist attraction celebrated for its breathtaking views but can be challenging to access due to its remote jungle location in Indonesia.

As a safety precaution, the site has been temporarily closed for inspections following the incident, highlighting previous cases of fatal falls from heights in the area.

In a similar incident, a well-known YouTube influencer, Stacey Tourout, survived a car crash that sent her vehicle plummeting 650 feet off a Canadian mountain, sustaining severe head injuries. Despite efforts by medical teams, she succumbed to her injuries after being airlifted to a hospital.

Tragically, her partner, Matthew Yeomans, died instantly upon impact as he was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, found without vital signs at the scene.
