Police disclosed that the gun responsible for the fatal shooting of teenager Ellis Cox had been involved in two prior shootings before his tragic death two years ago. Ellis, who was innocent and uninvolved in criminal activities, was ambushed by individuals on electric bikes in Aintree after a day out with friends. Despite his lack of association with crime, his companions that night were affiliated with a targeted gang.

The murder weapon, a self-loading pistol, had been used in incidents damaging a car window in Garston and shooting a flat in Walton prior to Ellis’ killing. Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, heading the investigation, mentioned that the firearm had not been used post the murder and remained unrecovered.

Ellis’ family, still seeking closure, extended a Crimestoppers reward to £20,000 in hopes of garnering information. Ellis’ mother, Carolyn Cox, emphasized the importance of justice and urged people to come forward with any details. The family expressed their ongoing pain and desire for answers, calling for those with information to speak up.

According to Det Chf Insp McGrath, the events leading to the shooting were linked to street-level drug disputes involving factions in Liverpool. The investigation has resulted in nine arrests, with ongoing inquiries into the suspects’ involvement. McGrath expressed confidence in nearing the arrest of the perpetrator responsible for Ellis’ murder, emphasizing the significance of breaking down criminal allegiances.
