Police in Budapest, Hungary, apprehended a 30-year-old man suspected of amassing human body parts from deserted cemeteries and his workplace at a hospital. The arrest took place on June 17 following a tipoff to authorities about the man storing body parts at his residence and work premises.
Upon searching the suspect’s apartment, investigators from Hungary’s National Bureau of Investigation uncovered a macabre scene with an assortment of body parts, bones, and skin. Among the items seized were skulls, a complete lower leg, a hand, and a facial skin reconstruction resembling a human face. Additional bones were found packed in a suitcase, alongside a heart in a jar, the origin of which is yet to be determined.
During interrogation, the man admitted to collecting the body parts and expressed a particular fascination with human anatomy. Not only did he gather body parts, but he also confessed to preparing and consuming food made from them. He is currently detained on suspicion of illegal utilization of human remains.
Authorities stated that the man has a keen interest in anatomy and pathology, mentioning his penchant for dissecting animals. It is believed that he acquired the body parts through his employment at a hospital and by exhuming bodies from abandoned cemeteries in Slovakia and Hungary.
Electronic devices belonging to the suspect, including computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, SIM cards, and data cards, were confiscated by the police. Forensic experts will examine all recovered body parts, with the potential for further charges pending the determination of their origins.
