Prince William rode a London bus today to showcase the global impact of his Earthshot Prize. Accompanied by environmentalist Robert Irwin, son of the late Steve Irwin, they traveled on an electric double-decker named ‘2030’ through the city streets.
The duo, along with two young climate activists, boarded the 3,000th bus in the Transport for London fleet to reach London’s Guildhall for the Earthshot Prize Impact Assembly. The Earthshot Prize, initiated in 2020 for a decade, awards £5 million annually to innovative climate change and environmental solutions, along with mentoring and support.
The event gathered finalists, winners, and global leaders to celebrate achievements and introduce new initiatives. Prince William expressed his optimism, citing the progress made by Earthshot Prize finalists in reducing carbon emissions, preserving land and water, and managing waste.
As the awards approach their halfway mark, with India hosting the next event, Prince William emphasized the importance of taking action towards a sustainable future. He urged tech CEOs at a recent conference to lead efforts in addressing environmental challenges.
At London Climate Action Week, Prince Charles led discussions with tech giants like Google, Meta, and Amazon to combat wildlife trafficking. William, supported by the Royal Foundation’s United for Wildlife, called for stronger actions to combat climate change and protect wildlife.
Joined by actors Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch, Prince William encouraged business leaders to adopt more ambitious environmental initiatives. The Earthshot initiative aims to inspire global collaboration and innovative solutions to tackle pressing environmental issues.
