Billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of SpaceX, has expressed his views on the recent space mishap involving Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Glenn rocket. The incident occurred during a static fire test at Launch Complex 36 of the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.
Elon Musk, on his social media platform X, simply commented, “Most unfortunate. Rockets are hard.” Following the explosion, Blue Origin released a statement confirming the anomaly during the hotfire test and assuring that all personnel were safe.
The explosion took place around 9 pm local time on Thursday, May 28. Videos circulating online capture the detonation at the rocket’s base, followed by smoke rising up the shaft and a subsequent blast near the spacecraft’s nose. Jeff Bezos also posted on X, stating that all personnel were safe and efforts were underway to determine the cause of the incident.
NASA has not yet made an official statement online regarding the event. However, Mike Haridopolos, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology subcommittee chair, posted on X expressing gratitude for the safety of all involved and acknowledging the swift response of the first responders and engineering teams.
